How to fix a blinking white PlayStation 4 controller

When your PlayStation or peripherals do things you’ve never seen before, it’s understandable that you will be worried. DualShock controller lights usually do not flash white. There are two main reasons you might see a flashing white light on your DualShock controller: whether the battery is dying, or the controller failed to connect to your PlayStation 4. Both of these can be fixed; we just need to solve the problem

Check your USB cable

USB cables can be fragile. One of the easiest problems to fix is replacing your old USB charging cable and replacing it with a new, shiny one. This USB Charging Cable works well with the DualShock controller and is worth taking to ensure your cable does not stop your controller from charging.

  1. After the replacement has arrived, plug the USB into PlayStation 4.
  2. Plug your USB into the DualShock controller.
  3. If the light turns blue or orange, you will know the problem is the cable.

Reset your console

The old “turn off and turn on” trick works more than you think! Sometimes, all it takes is a simple restart on PlayStation 4.

  1. Turn off your PlayStation by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the PlayStation 4
  3. Wait for about 3 minutes.
  4. Reconnect your power cable.

5. Turn on Playstation 4.
6. Plug your USB charging cable into the PlayStation 4
7. Plug your USB charging cable into the DualShock controller

8. Press the PlayStation button on the DualShock controller to turn it on.

Reset the controller

Your controller has its own software, and when the software is updated, things can get damaged. Fortunately, you can reset your DualShock controller back to factory defaults.

1. Turn your controller over to find the reset button on the back with the upper right screw.

3

2. Using a paperclip that has not been folded, or the sim card opener from your cellphone, press the button in the hole.
3. Hold the button down for 5 seconds.
4. Use steps 7.8, and 9 in the previous step to reconnect your DualShock controller to PS4.

Start in safe mode

Maybe your PS4 is to blame and not the controller. You can do some more troubleshooting in safe mode, including rebuilding your database. Sometimes going into safe mode to connect your DualShock controller will bypass any problems.

Note: Don’t try to launch your PS4 in safe mode if your USB port does not work. After you start your console in safe mode, you need to synchronize your controller via the USB port. If your USB port does not work, you must fix it before trying this step.

1. Turn off your PS4.
2. Press and hold the power button until you hear two beeps: one when you first press it and seven seconds later.

3. Connect your DualShock 4 controller with a USB cable.

5

4. Press the PS button in the center of the controller.

Conclusion

If none of the steps above work, you might have an incorrect controller. That happens, especially if your controller is not handled carefully. My toddler likes to use my controller as a hammer sometimes, and I’m sure that’s not good for that. If that’s the case, then you might need to return it to the store where you bought it or take another one.
