How to Stop Microsoft Away Team Status and Stay Active with the Mouse Jiggle apps

Get rid of your availability issues with this creative fix!

Microsoft Teams is the Workstream Collaboration application choice for many organizations. And while relatively good applications increase user productivity and efficiency, there are very few problems that have become the bane of many people.

Microsoft Teams has status features that can be useful in many cases such as notifying your coworkers when you are available, busy, in meetings, or leaving. But don’t hesitate to add it to the list of good things that end up being a nuisance, at least for many employees who suffer from micro management in their organizations.

The status of Microsoft Teams changed from ‘Available’ to ‘Away’ in only five minutes of inactivity and this has caused problems for many people, whether it is accused of not working enough, or some other problem that interferes with their work. There is a lot of anger in the Microsoft Community that is asking for a little more control from Microsoft over their status, but so far, their cries have been in vain because the company refused to obey them.

But no need to be discouraged anymore. Although there is no direct solution to this problem, you can solve it with a little creativity.

Install a software simulator. As previously stated, the whole reason that the status automatically changes from ‘Available’ to ‘Remote’ is when there is no activity, mouse or keyboard, on your desktop for more than five minutes. So a fast and efficient solution involves installing applications that simulate mouse or keyboard activities for you.

Use the Jiggler Mouse Software

Jiggler Mouse is a simple but effective solution to your problem. The software falsifies mouse input into Windows when jiggling is activated and does not leave your PC inactive. Therefore, the Team will not assume you are unemployed and your status will remain ‘Available’. Mouse Jiggler also has a “Zen jiggle” option that virtually moves your pointer, e.g. Windows thinks the mouse is moving but the cursor is not moving. Just download the zip file, run the application, and click ‘Enable Jiggle’ to shake the mouse whenever you want.

Using the Move Mouse Application

Move Mouse is another simulator application that you can download from Windows Store on your PC that moves the mouse after a certain time interval, thereby creating the illusion of activity for the Microsoft Team. You can even configure it to perform more complex actions than just moving the mouse, but in this case, it’s more than enough to fool the Team application.

What if I cannot install the Application on my Office Computer?

Although installing simulator applications such as ‘Mouse Jiggle’ or ‘Move Mouse’ is the fastest and cleanest solution, many organizations have checks that prevent the installation of software like this on employee computers. So what do you do if you are at the edge of this difficult situation? Well, it’s time to be more creative!

  • You can get an analog watch and put your mouse on it whenever you are busy elsewhere. Each time the watch is checked, this movement will also move your mouse.
  • Or better yet, if you work from home and have a cat, you can also put it on the floor and let the cat play with it! Works like a charm.

If you don’t use a mouse with your laptop, you can buy a device like the Jiggler MJ-3 Mouse that is connected to your computer’s USB port and your mouse jiggles. This might be a little investment, but if you are desperate, it will be very helpful.

Although there is no way to configure the status settings in the Team application so it will not automatically change to ‘Away’ from ‘Available’ after some time, this fix
